Field Day at Pastoria Lavender, Kyneton, Vic.
TALGA organised a Field Day as part of its 23rd Conference and AGM and this was held at Pastoria Lavender, Kyneton, Vic on 23rd March 2018. The day was a great success with 31 attendees of whom at least 10 were not members yet but were looking into the prospect of developing lavender farms around Australia.
Neville and Gillian Henderson, and daughter Emma, were wonderful hosts showing delegates around the lavender fields; discussing planting and harvesting lavender; cleaning and sieving lavender flower buds; and demonstrating distillation of lavender essential oil. This lavender farm is only four years old and shows what can be achieved in a short time. There was much to interest new growers as well as experienced growers. Neville Henderson had used his engineering skills to adapt and modify harvesting equipment such that many operations that would occupy two people
could be performed safely and successfully by himself.
